SHAY MODARESSI

I am a filmmaker,  and multidisciplinary visual artist based in Vancouver, Canada.

My work spans film, television, photography, design, and visual storytelling, shaped by a background that connects fine arts, journalism, and production. Over the course of my career, I have worked across Tehran, Paris, Tokyo, and Vancouver, collaborating on projects ranging from independent films and documentaries to international television and streaming productions.

Before joining the film industry, I spent more than a decade working as a photojournalist and documentary photographer for publications and broadcasters including Paris Match, Agence France-Presse (AFP), ARTE, and Il Sole 24 Ore. That experience continues to inform my approach to image-making, research, and narrative.

As an Art Director and Lead Graphic Artist, I have contributed to productions for Netflix, Warner Bros., Apple TV+, CBC, Hulu, and BBC Films. Alongside my professional practice, I have taught production design, graphic design, and visual storytelling, supporting emerging filmmakers and artists.

Across all mediums, I am interested in the relationship between image, memory, culture, and storytelling. Whether working in film, photography, design, or multimedia projects, my focus remains the same: creating thoughtful visual experiences that serve both the story and the audience.
